‘Sunflowers in a Lilac Jug’
22.5 x 30 cms oil on cotton canvas board
Featuring a few of my favourite things...
After I’d tried, unsuccessfully, to find sunflowers locally, I finally managed to find some which had just been delivered to store in the next town. They just looked like sticks when they first arrived home, and a whole week on are still refusing to fully open!
I decided to change tack and paint a still life while I was waiting.
I thought the sunflowers would go perfectly with my lilac jug, which is part of a jug and bowl washset that I bought years ago at a local vintage flea market. I also retrieved a beautiful gifted tablecloth from storage too.
The jug and bowl set has moved home with me countless times since I first bought it at that flea market, and it has suited the age and style of some dwellings far more than others, but I love it and I don’t intend to ever part with it. I’m really pleased that it’s appeared in a painting, even if it wasn’t actually the painting I intended to paint next!
